I have a similar issue, as kb, here. When I try switching to another user account that I have setup (with my work email address) I get a similar error. When I am prompted to switch to another account, I see this similar error message:

"Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application '74658136-14ec-4630-ad9b-26e160ff0fc6' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account."

When I sign out, and sign back in with either of my two accounts, I navigate to the Azure Active Directory blade and get a similar error output that I saw when initially trying to acess Azure Marketplace:

How do you do when you don't have the necessary permissions to add an external user? In my case I am a guest of organizations with my personal account. I can't leave them because every time I am required to log in and I have this message :

Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Wingtip Toys' and cannot access the application '8c59ead7-d703-4a27-9e55-c96a0054c8d2' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.

I don't understand how it can be so difficult to leave an organization where you are only a guest. It is preventing me from closing an account.

We can also try settings up MFA for guest user account. I had a similar issue with a guest user account and resolved post resetting up MFA. let's try this and let me know if it works.

I have a similar issue as Bénédicte Faure mentioned above.

In my case, I am using my M365 business account, and my email address was added to the other tenant as a guest.

Now I am unable to leave the other organization and do not have access to their tenant.

I see this error:

Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' and cannot access the application '8c59ead7-d703-4a27-9e55-c96a0054c8d2' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.

The selected user account in this case is my M365 Business email address. The other company apparently deleted my guest account but this annoying error remains.

I also cannot switch this OFF in Teams:

Any ideas?

I have the exact same issue as described above by Casper, with the same screenshots. Unable to leave the org from MS Teams (the door with the left arrow leads to a browser window then the "Selected user account does not exist in tenant" error message, and the toggle switch is completely unresponsive), and the org does not even show when viewing my account on microsoft.com.

Hi Chip Unfortunately, I had to resolve this issue myself. I raised a ticket with Microsoft Support and spoke to a real human more than once after I lost my temper due to them passing the ticket from one guy to the other. They phoned and emailed several times and blamed their AI service for passing the ticket from one person to another all the time - unbelievable. Microsoft did a screen share on my PC too but was not able to fix the issue. After several phone calls (and a couple of uninstall and reinstall of Teams and many restarts), they came up with this genius solution: Do a Windows 11 reinstall! Settings >> Reset >> Reinstall now. This fixed the issue and the other tenant was gone but it created two new problems. For THAT to be fixed, I was told that Microsoft was going to charge me. Issue 1 was Teams was extremely slow. Issue 2 was that Windows Defender stopped working. I closed the ticket and I ended up doing a COMPLETE reinstall of Windows: Settings >> Reset >> Reset PC and downloaded the OS from the cloud as I did not trust whatever was left on my PC. It was a painful exercise but now all is working as it should and the other tenant is still gone. Hope this helps. Regards Casper PS. I still do not know exactly what caused this issue, but I think it is due to the OTHER tenant's Teams settings with Guest access. I may be wrong.

Ugh, what a pain! Sorry it took so much, but thank you very much providing this update about how you got it resolved. I agree that there is some kind of residual setting from the other tenant, and uninstalling Teams does not seem to affect it. I've tried a bunch of things myself, including combinations of uninstalls, sign-in/outs, etc. It does appear that something has changed now, and the last thing that I did was go through old chats and delete ones from previous meetings with old tenants. I don't know if this was the magic step, but I no longer see the old tenant in the desktop app. Perhaps it was still listed due to the presence of these old chats? Maybe this will help someone in the future with the same issue, or maybe it's irrelevant...

The account in question has no connection with the tenant Upskills except for the fact that I used to work for them and used to access both O365 accounts (KM11557 and Upskills)on the same device. Upskills organization doesn’t show in my organizations list as well. I have no clue on how to unblock this error at this point.

Hi. I am having this issue regularly for a specific cloud folder set up by another company. Often times, I am able to access the folder by going through the initial invitation link but it is very frustrating still.

It would be great if a better solution could be found as clearly, simply adding yourself to the tenant list is not the solution.

I have no association with the research company who Teams seems to want to connect with. Why would I set my Yeams account up to require their permission?

It has come to our attention that you are looking to leave an invited or customer organization. To assist you with this process, please follow the outlined steps below:

Visit https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations
Select 'Organizations' from the options on the left-hand side.
Your "Home organization and other organizations you collaborate with" will be displayed.
Click on the 'Leave' button next to the tenant/organization you wish to depart from.

Once you click leave button, you will be kicked out from that organization and please note that you will be not able to leave from your home organization.

Thank you for the response.

The company that granted me guest access does not show up on the link you provided.

In the screen print above, the top one is my company name and the 2nd one is my Microsoft distributor. There are no other organizations listed.

Hi Casper Swanepoel,

This really troubles you a lot, sorry about that.

What I understand is, the account which your mentioning is totally a different domain account, I mean the email address itself different from your company email address.

You can click on your profile icon from Teams app directly and singout as mentioned in below screenshot. You can switch profile by click on the profile icon.

Or navigate to system setting > Accounts >Email & accounts > under accounts user by other apps, remove the unwanted accounts. Screenshot for you reference.

No luck in the above two options, please uninstall teams app and follow below methods.

Method 1: Reset the app

Type settings in the search box, and then select the Settings app from the results.

Select Apps > Installed apps, and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.

Locate the New Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (...) on the right, and then select Advanced options.

In the Reset section, select Reset.

Restart Teams.

Method 2: Delete the files

If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon on the taskbar, and then select Quit.

Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key

+R.

In the Run dialog box, enter the following path, and then select OK.

Delete all files and folders in the directory.

Restart Teams.

Path: %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

Alternative Path:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Teams

After that reinstall the Teams app, signin fresh with required accounts.

It seems that the nightmare is over.

I followed your steps to reset Teams. Resetting Teams removed the rogue organization but in the end, I had to reinstall Teams completely on my PC, laptop, and phone.

I navigated to this organization page and there are no other organizations am involved with. I'm using my own laptop, signed into my own 365 business account, and I cannot use software that I am paying for! Very frustrating. I'm trying to use project under my own login. Why should I be hampered by another company?

Please refer to my earlier comment - had to take the unfortunate step to reinstall Windows. That was the ONLY way to get rid of that error and it has been working fine since then - for the last couple of months.
