How to fix a missing ntprint.inf_amd64 within driverstore from blocking cumulative updates on Server2019

Issue I'm having on one server Windows 2019 with Sql Server installed.

This Windows Server 2019 will not install cumulative updates. Windows update gives a low knowledge value error 0x80070003.

Troubleshooting / DISM does not find anything.

Setupapi.dev logfile shows

During the "Uninstall Driver Updates Stage"

that a file

c:\windows\system32\Driverstore\filerepository\ntprint.inf_amd64_2097e02ea77b432e\ntprint.inf

is not found.

Then the cumulative update decides to roll back.

(That directory is not present,

a similar newer version is present on other 2019 servers

c:\windows\system32\Driverstore\filerepository\ntprint.inf_amd64_bfd583806467d1ba\ntprint.inf

)

But windows server nor knowledgebase provides a method to repair / replace this file or install a more modern version in it's place.

Is there any way to repair or replace, update this driver package? "Microsoft WIndows Core Printer Driver Package" is the header from it's equivalent on a different server.

Or remove mention of it from whatever hive it's mentioned by, so the monthly cumulative update isn't failing to uninstall it, and giving up.

Listed in the registry is a HKEY_USERS.Default\Software\Microsoft\TelemeteryClient\ThrottleStore\watson\generic\generic\pnpdriverimporterror\p1x64p20000000020p3ntprint.infp46e27f686b.............

The cause might be something else, but this reports the same issue with a 2012 server.

I lack the identical version of the microsoft core print driver to drop into place.

    Hello there,

Here are some suggestions for your reference first. If you have done these actions but do not succeed, it is recommended to troubleshoot with the drives.

    1. If there is three-way antivirus software installed in your client, please consider shutting it down when you try to install these updates.

    2. It is recommended to check if you have installed the latest SSU or not. If not, consider installing the latest SSU and then installing the update.
