Outlook crashes when connected to o365 Sharepoint calendar that was shared via outlook client

Had a user that was working at a different computer than usual using outlook 2021 LTSC and tried to connect to a o365 sharepoint calendar. He could not find it so another user that has the same 0365 sharepoint Calander connected to their outlook 2021 ltsc shared it to him from within outlook. Outlook worked fine till the user returned to his normal computer. As soon as he did, his outlook and anyone that had the 0365 calendar connected to their outlook causes outlook to crash. Outlook is in cached mode. We've been able to remove the calendar from their outlook profile in a couple of ways but the moment we connect the calendar, it crashes. If removed, their outlook is fine.

Steps taken,

Outlook in safe mode

remove and recreate outlook profile

Outlook repair

remove calendar from outlook profile

The users mailbox is in our on prem Exchange 2016. We are hybrid and tested with a user connected to mail in o365 but it does the same thing. Have looked at sharepoint permissions and all looks good. A search in Exchange though powershell for calendars that the user has permissions does not list the sharepoint calendar.

Other sharepoint calendars connected to outlook work fine.

In the outlook profile, the SharePoint list has "Display this list on other computers with this account" and "Update this subscription..." options checked for the SharePoint lists. To remove the list from the outlook profile, we have to toggle these off, and then launch in safe mode and remove the calendar from outlook. In some instances we can remove the list from the Sharepont list tab from the mail profile without launching outlook but typically, it recreates the connection.

    Hi @Jon E,

    According to your description, Outlook works fine by removing the calendar from the Outlook profile. As soon as they connect to that SharePoint calendar, Outlook crashes.

    Other SharePoint Calendars have no problem connecting to Outlook, this looks like a calendar sync issue.

    Does the SharePoint calendar have many recurring events? Did the user make a change to the calendar in Outlook and it failed to sync on SharePoint?

    In view of this, you may need to re-create this SP calendar in the SharePoint site to connect to Outlook to get out of the current predicament.
