Registration of PTR resource records

Hello!

Would someone please clarify the following, please:

1 The theory:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/configure-dns-dynamic-updates-windows-server-2003

How Windows-based computers update their DNS names

By default, Windows computers that are statically configured for TCP/IP try to dynamically register host address (A) and pointer (PTR) resource records for IP addresses that are configured and used by their installed network connections. By default, all computer register records are based on the full computer name.

...

DNS updates can be sent for any one of the following reasons or events:

...

  • You use the ipconfig /registerdns command to manually force an update of the client name registration in DNS.

...

By default, Windows registers A and PTR resource records every 24 hours regardless of the computer's role.

2 The practice:

I set the static ip on the server, run ipconfig /registerdns - the result:

The server does register its A record but NOT its PTR record ("Use this connection's DNS suffix in DNS registration" checkbox on the DNS tab does not have any effect - some articles say it may help in registration of PTR rr).

Q: Why is PTR resource record not being created 1) after ipconfig /registerdns and 2) "every 24 hours" as written in MS documentation?

Regards,
Michael

P.S. "Update the associated PTR record" checkbox is selected on the A record that's get created in forward zone.

    Q01

    P.P.S.

Q2: If - according to 1a and 1b (How Windows-based computers update their DNS names) - any computer with static ip by default must register both its A and PTR records (1a) by means of DHCP Client service (1b) - what's the purpose of the DNS Client\Register PTR records GPO setting, especially when the 1b clearly states that it is the DHCP Client service that's responsible for registering BOTH A and PTR records, NOT the DNS Client service ?

2-a) "Specifies if DNS client computers will register PTR resource records." -

    and

2-b) "By default, DNS clients configured to perform dynamic DNS registration will attempt to register PTR resource record only if they successfully registered the corresponding A resource record."

    2b directly contradicts 1a.
