Do M365 Compliance Center retention policies apply to online archives?

Question

If we have a retention policy in place to retain and then delete any emails that are 5 years or older, would this still apply to emails that are automatically moved to a user's online archive mailbox?

It will, yes. It acts like a default retention tag when using the "old-style" Exchange-specific retention policies, thus it applies to the entire content of the mailbox. Including the content of the Online archive.
