Hi. I have a sharepoint 2019 farm and there is a requirement to install SharePoint 2013 Designer workflow. I came across the article to install workflow manager and workflow manager client on the sharepoint server. I have a farm like below

Web Front End Servers - 2

Application Servers - 2

Search Server - 1

Please let me know where should i install SharePoint Workflow Manager and Where should i install Workflow Client. should i install it on only one server?

Microsoft 365 and Office | SharePoint | For business | Windows
Windows for business | Windows Server | User experience | PowerShell

    Hi @Bikram Pal ,

You have two options to configure Workflow Manager in SharePoint 2019:

    1. A part of the SharePoint farm and the communication occurs by using HTTP or HTTPs.
    2. A separate workflow manager farm that must consist of 1 server or 3 servers and the communication occurs by using HTTP or HTTPs.

In your case, you have decided to install and configure the Workflow Manager as a part of SharePoint Farm deployment, so

    • It doesn’t matter to install the workflow manager on the SharePoint WFE Servers or App Servers.
    • For me, I would prefer to install the Workflow Manager on one of the App Servers and install the Workflow Manager Client on all other SharePoint Servers.

As to Workflow Client, it is recommended to be Installed on all servers in the SharePoint Server farm according to this article: Install SharePoint Workflow Manager.

Microsoft has released "SharePoint Workflow Manager" replacing "Microsoft Workflow Manager" . Make sure you are using the correct installation of workflow manager.

You can install SWFM on application server and client need to be install on all WFE. Some recommend client need to be install on Application server as well but it works fine if you have it only on the WFE ( servers behind F5 )
