Hi Team,

I am not able to copy .xls file which having content type as application/octet-stream.

Can you please help me to resolve this issue without changing file extension.

Below is the scenario:

I am copying the .xls file from the SFTP folder to Blob (Raw Layer) using copy activity and selecting source and sink as Binary.

So again, I want to use the same file from Blob(Raw Layer) as Excel only for the next work, but I am getting the below error.

The error message suggests that only '.xls' and '.xlsx' format files are supported for reading Excel files using NPOI. Can you please make sure the file has suffix(“.xls” or “.xlsx”) to determine it's an excel? Since you are using Binary format, can you use excel format for SFTP source and try again? Also, can you please try from that dataflow and see if you can copy it?

Hi BhargavaGunnam, I have to copy a .xls file as it is from SFTP to RAW but when we are selecting source as Excel but we don't have sink as Excel option.

Hello Sharad Gawade, Your understanding is correct. Excel is not a supported sink file format for blob storage. But In general, using a Binary dataset both in the source and sink in the copy activity can move the files without any changes. As per the error message, xlsx file/content cannot be identified by Excel (NPOI SDK). Please verify that the source file you are trying to copy is in the .xls or .xlsx format. And please verify the source file is not corrupted or password protected. also please try with dataflow to see if you are able to copy.
