Hello, I need your help to understand how I can set a maximum budget limit on my azure account. For example, let's say I don't want to spend more than 200 dollar per month how can I set that?

 thank you

    Hello @alex smail

To set a maximum spending limit on your Azure account, you can use Azure Cost Management and Billing to create budgets and set up cost alerts. This way, you can monitor your spending and take appropriate actions when your costs are close to or exceed your budget. However, Azure does not provide a direct mechanism to automatically cap spending or disable resources when the limit is reached.

For better cost control, consider using Azure Cost Management features such as cost analysis, Advisor recommendations, and resource tagging to optimize your resource usage and reduce expenses. Also, review your resources and services regularly to identify and remove any unused or underutilized resources.

There are two ways to set a maximum budget limit on your Azure account:

    • You can use the spending limit feature, which is available for some subscription types that include credits, such as Azure free account or Visual Studio subscriptions. The spending limit is equal to the amount of credit and prevents you from spending over that amount. When you reach the spending limit, your services are disabled for the rest of the billing period. You can remove the spending limit at any time in the Azure portal, but you can’t change the amount.
    • You can use the budgets feature, which is available for any scope (such as subscription or resource group) and allows you to set a custom amount and monitor your spending. You can also configure alerts and actions when your spending reaches a certain percentage of your budget. You can create and manage budgets in the Azure portal or using Azure Cost Management APIs. To create or view a budget, open a scope in the Azure portal and select Budgets in the menu. For example, navigate to Subscriptions, select a subscription from the list, and then select Budgets in the menu. Use the Scope pill to switch to a different scope, like a management group, in Budgets.

To remove the spending limit, sign in to the Azure portal and select Subscriptions. Select the subscription that you want to remove the spending limit from. Select Overview and then select Remove spending limit1.

I hope this helps you. Do you have any other questions?

    Hi @alex smail

you will be able to take action when reaching a certain threashold cost by creating actions, in the form of Azure functions, webhook, logic apps, where in we get the previlege of stopping the VMs\ other services that incur cost.

While creating budgets, it asks for the action to be taken as below in the Manage action group link.
