Teams won't let me sign in with my company email address. It says I don't have access to the domain

Teams won't let me sign in with my company email address. It says I don't have access: "you don't have access to the contoso.com org in Teams. Select another org, or contact your admin for more details". When I try to log on anyway with my consoto.com email, it says "You're missing out! Ask your admin to enable Microsoft Teams for Contoso".

The following is good to know when trying to help me solve my problem:

  • I have a personal login (hotmail), and a business login (contoso).
  • I am the sole owner and user of contoso, it is my company. I created the logon.
  • It used to work fine. I don't know what triggered it.
  • I have several teams accounts (from clients I work with). Perhaps this interfered somehow.
  • I have two microsoft accounts (annoyingly, I must have done that by accident. One personal (hotmail), and one business (contoso).
  • I have microsoft 365
  • Sometimes the teams icon is just purple, sometimes it is purple within a white circle. I don't know what the difference is?
  • Sometimes the error message suggests that I need to access/approve something in the DNS (? I can't remember) area of my domain, or something like that.
  • I can only log into the personal one (with hotmail login). If I invite people with my business email in my business calendar, they don't seem to be able to follow the link to join me in the meeting. I can enter, just now my invitees. This is mainly why I need this issue fixed; I don't want to invite clients into meetings with a hotmail account.

Can you help?

Thanks, Saskia

Hello Saskia! I understand you cannot access your enterprise Teams environment with your work login. I believe you may still need to log into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and either grant your organization access to Teams or individually with usernames.

Please see https://www.addictivetips.com/web-conferencing/error-ask-your-admin-to-enable-microsoft-teams-fixed/#:~:text=Enable%20Microsoft%20Teams%20for%20user%201%20Visit%20the,a%20user%2C%20and%20enable%20Microsoft%20Teams%20for%20them. for a great step by step guide.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @Saskia Eisberg - 't Hooft,

Please note that since this is a public forum, I have replaced your domain with contoso.com for security.

In my reply below I would also use contoso to represent your actual domain.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Kindly note that you may need to use the business login (contoso) instead of the personal login (hotmail) to login your organization account (contoso) in Teams.

And since the error is "You're missing out! Ask your admin to enable Microsoft Teams for Contoso", which may often be caused by the account you are using doesn't have an active subscription for Teams.

Please have a check in Microsoft 365 admin center to see what the current license do you have on your account.

    Example:

    02

Sometimes the teams icon is just purple, sometimes it is purple within a white circle. I don't know what the difference is?

    Do they look like:

    01

If yes, the left one is for Teams personal (in this case your hotmail account), the right one is for Teams Business (in this case your contoso account).
