Azure Data factory trigger automatically started running after publish but the schedule time is for next day

I have 2 pipelines which are running everyday at midnight.Due to some business requirements I stopped the trigger.Next day when I started the trigger (Not triggered the pipeline) and published.It immediately started running even the schedule timing was at midnight.I am little bit confused why this happened.Does anyone have any idea why this happened.

I tried updating the existing trigger with new time then also same thing happen it started running immediately after publishing.Also I have another pipeline which is running for everyhour,I stopped that trigger for 1 hour and then again started but for this trigger not started running. So I think this is Bug in ADF might be.

Sedat SALMAN 14,180 Reputation points MVP2023-04-03T21:06:39.21+00:00 When you stop a trigger in Azure Data Factory, it stops the scheduled executions but does not stop the trigger from remembering its previous schedule. When you start the trigger again, it might attempt to catch up on any missed runs that occurred while it was stopped, depending on the configuration of the trigger.
In your case, it seems like the trigger started running immediately after you published and started it because it was trying to catch up on the missed runs. If you don't want this behavior, you can create a new trigger with the desired schedule and associate it with the pipelines. This way, the new trigger won't have any knowledge of previous missed runs and will start according to the specified schedule.

I tried to reproduce the issue on my end but no luck.
Steps followed to reproduce the problem:- Create a schedule trigger with recurrence interval of 1 minute.
- Let it run for couple executions.
- Then disable and publish the trigger and wait for 5 minutes and then restart the trigger and publish the changes.
- And try to observe if the trigger execution start immediately or according to the scheduled time.
om my observation, when I restarted the schedule trigger, then it didn't start immediately to complete the previous missed scheduled events rather it just got triggered as per the scheduled time.
I suspect something is off, specific to your scenario. Hence I suggest to file a support ticket for deeper investigation and do share the SR# with us for further investigation. In case if you don't have a support plan, then please let us know here so that we can work with you offline.

Ian Dell 0 Reputation points2023-05-05T09:49:30.8366667+00:00 Searched for this threat as we're the same behaviour in our Azure Data Factory environment. We needed to re-enable a trigger after being disabled overnight to investigate a job failure. Once we deployed the enable trigger it kicked off the pipeline immediately. I even tested a different trigger which i did want to kick off a pipeline to see if it run the pipeline immediately as well, which it did.
We check the trigger settings and code to make sure there wasn't any setting to run as soon as it was enabled but we couldn't see anything like this.

Mrunal Lakde 0 Reputation points2023-05-31T17:09:42.7566667+00:00 We too are facing the same issue. We noticed this behavior very recently, as this was not the case some time back.
We have a trigger scheduled to run once a day at 6 AM. We noticed below two behaviors when trigger was deployed in started state:
- When deployed at 5 AM, trigger ran at its scheduled time of 6 AM
- When deployed at 7 AM, trigger started right away, but the expected behavior was to start next day at 6 AM.
Looks to me that a bug was introduced in ADF recently.

@Ian Dell @Mrunal Lakde I would suggest you both to please create another thread so that you will get response from Microsoft or else create a ticket if you have service plan enable.
