I am unable to remove a windows Virtual Machine in change tracker
Could you please help on it

Check if any resource locks are preventing the removal.

You can view and manage resource locks from the Azure Portal, Azure PowerShell, or Azure CLI.

Azure Portal:

Navigate to the VM you want to remove.

Click on "Locks" in the left-hand menu and review any existing locks.

Remove any unnecessary locks before attempting to remove the VM again.

PowerShell:

# Get locks Get-AzResourceLock -ResourceGroupName "YourResourceGroupName" -ResourceName "YourVMName" -ResourceType "Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines" # Remove locks Remove-AzResourceLock -LockId "YourLockId"

Azure CLI:

# Get locks az lock list --resource-group "YourResourceGroupName" --resource-name "YourVMName" --resource-type "Microsoft.Compute/virtualMachines" # Remove locks az lock delete --ids "YourLockId"

or

verify the permissions (you need a contributor role) then stop the VM and

remove from the change tracker

Remove-AzVM -ResourceGroupName "YourResourceGroupName" -Name "YourVMName" -Force

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A platform.

Change Tracking and Inventory in Azure Automation feature tracks changes in virtual machines hosted in Azure, on-premises, and other cloud environments to help you pinpoint operational and environmental issues. So, it is not possible to remove a Virtual Machine from the Change Tracker list. The only way to remove a Virtual Machine from Change Tracker is to Disable Change Tracking from a virtual machine.

Disassociate Data Collection Rule (DCR) from a VM
Uninstall change tracking extension.
