System will not allow me to sign in

trying to activate microsoft 365 after installation and it asks me to sign in. I enter my email then enter my password and get the following error message "There is a problem with your Microsoft account. To fix this, sign in to account.live.com from a browser." I've looked for this, googled it and can't find it. Any help is appreciated.
