Hi Microsoft,
We got an email about the above subject. Does this mean:
- We have to set up and deploy same app service on at least 2 different regions?
- We have to create new DBs as well on 2 different regions?
- In order to maintain traffic and SLA, we need to use Azure Traffic Manager for easy switching?
Isn't this costly on your customer?

So to elaborate, Currently when a disaster brings an entire Azure region offline, all App Service apps hosted in that region are placed in disaster recovery mode. Features are available to help you restore the app to a different region or recover files from the impacted app. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/manage-disaster-recovery Beginning 31 March 2025, we'll no longer place Azure App Service web applications in disaster recovery mode in the event of a disaster in an Azure region.
So we strongly encourage you to implement commonly used disaster recovery techniques to prevent loss of functionality or data for your web apps if there's a regional disaster.

If you have web applications deployed to the Free or Shared tier and you want to implement a disaster recovery strategy for them, scale up to Basic tier or higher.
Note that Backup and restore capabilities are included in Basic and higher pricing tiers. The Free and Shared pricing tiers of App Service are not recommended for production scenarios and are not backed by any SLAs.
