Can't sign in to Microsoft Teams meeting due to tenant configuration

Microsoft Teams prompts me to log in to join meetings but when I do it attempts to authenticate me against a tenant that I don't have access to. This gives me an error message and I can't join the meeting.

Here's the error text I receive:

Sorry, but we’re having trouble signing you in. AADSTS50020: User account <redacted> from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant <redacted> and cannot access the application '5e3ce6c0-2b1f-4285-8d4b-75ee78787346'(Microsoft Teams Web Client) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account. __

    Hi @Dave Miner

Please kindly note that here on Microsoft Q&A forum we mainly focus on questions about Teams for Business. If only the personal account facing this issue, please consider posting in the corresponding Microsoft Community for better help. Thanks for your understanding.

Are you logging in Teams via the default installed version of Teams (Teams for home or small business)?
How to distinguish (refer to the How do I know which version of Teams I'm using? part):

Use Teams for work or school in Windows 11

I would also recommend logging via Teams on the web and see if it can help with this issue.
