Syncing Azure Virtual Desktop user profiles

We are responsibly new to AVD and looking for support and guidance around best practices. We have created two AVD environment (desktops) that a user can select to use. One has additional functionality designed for a special project. However, the user profiles when switching between, are not synced and therefore making the experience not great. Does anyone know if we are doing things the wrong way.
