Hello. I re-booted my PC last night (07/10) as I aim to do once a week. (It was previously rebooted on 27/09 with no issue). I don't recall seeing any M/S Updates. However, after reboot, I can login using my profile, and my files still reside on C: when I look for them, but 'everything' else has changed: the desktop and lock screen images have gone (default Windows images in their place), shortcuts and files have gone from the desktop, iTunes has no record of my music, bookmarks in FireFox are lost, the Mail app will not open, I'm being asked to sign-in to DropBox, etc, etc. Any ideas how to restore the lost settings? Thanks

    Hi,

I noticed your thread tittle is about Windows 10 Upgrade, however, the contents says you did not see any Microsoft Update. So I want to confirm if the issue occur after Windows 10 upgrade, if yes, when did you perform system upgrade.
Please run command line "wmic qfe" as administrator to check what update packages have installed on your device.
Please also go to Setting\Update & Security\Recovery to check if any roll back to previous system version exists.
Also, please go to C driver to check if Windows.old file appeared there. (We need to tick “hidden items” under "View")

Normally, no matter upgrade or update will not reset your system configuration. To avoid system corruption, we could backup system by creating a system restore point by searching "create a restore point" and choose "system protection"\system restore.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your capture.
From your provided information, I know you have upgrade system to Windows 10 2004 on 26 Sep.
We could try the 2 measures to check if they could get your previous system settings.

    1. Go to Windows.old file, open users, and find your user account, open it to check if your Firefox bookmark located in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. For Intune music, go to C:\users[username]\ Music\iTune to check. Same measure for other application.
    2. Roll back to previous system version through that roll back option. It will revert your system to a point which previous upgrade. (Before roll back, we should back up users subfolder under Windows.old )
By the way, did you checked your system restore? If you have created a system restore point before, we could roll back to through that restore point. If not, try to create it regularly in the future.

    Bests,

    Thank you for your response.
I enclose a screenshot that shows the response to running "wmic qfe". (Hopefully you can see it?)
The option to rollback exists under Setting\Update & Security\Recovery. I have not initiated this process.
There is a Windows.old folder on C: date stamped at 26/09 at 22:31 hrs.
What would you suggest as the next step?
    Thanks again.

    Thank you.
Sorry for not responding sooner, I have been busy at work all day.
My previous system settings seem to be intact; I have checked and can see that my Firefox bookmarks are located in Windows.old and the temp iTune file exists, so I have just set-off down the roll back road. (Fingers crossed!)
I have never created a system restore. I will diarise to do that periodically going forward.
    Thanks again.

Some 50 minutes later, I’m back to what I recognise. Thank you once again.
