What is the minimum version of WebView2 Runtime that is supported for Windows 7/8?

We are using Microsoft WebView2 as an internal web browser in our Winforms based product solution. Our development machines are Windows 10 Professional Edition 21H2 version. However, since we are shipping our product to external customers, we need clarity on the WebView2 Runtime versions supported on older versions of Windows (i.e. Windows 7 and 8.1). Requesting assistance on this one please.

WebView2 does not have a "minimum" version for Windows 7/8. But it actually has a maximum/final version that is supported by Windows 7/8, which is version 109. You can read this doc for more information.

Hi @Shijie Li , Thanks for the clarification regarding Windows 7/8 and providing the documentation. However, when I am installing the version 109 runtime in my development machine (Windows 10), I am getting runtime exception while creating the environment for WebView2 core browser component. So, as a follow-up, I have the following questions:

(a) Is the runtime version 109 only supported for Windows 7/8 or does Windows 10 has a backward compatibility for WebView2 runtime version 109? (b) Does WebView2 runtime component has any dependency on the Edge Browser version in Windows 10? I was able to replicate the runtime exception on my development machine which has Edge browser version 112 and WebView2 runtime version 109.

Hi @Tushar Kanti Mishra ,

As to your questions:

(a) WebView2 runtime version 109 is also supported on Windows 10.

(b) A WebView2 app cannot take a dependency on the browser during production.

You can show us the specific runtime exception so that we can get a better understanding of this issue.
