Are security updates for Windows Defender available for Windows 7?

Hi, I have a low-end PC running Windows 7 x64, with a RAM of 2 GB. In this low specs, I think Windows Defender is the best AV that respects usage of system resources. So, I wanted to know if virus definition updates are still available for Windows Defender running on a Windows 7 machine.
Bitdefender, claiming to be really light on resources, uses a massive 1.6 GB of RAM, I can't even use Microsoft Word when the AV is running!
I was really satisfied with Kaspersky as it took 1.4 GB (not good, but better than Bitdefender), but now its trial period has ended.

    Yes, Microsoft continually updates security intelligence in antimalware products to cover the latest threats and to constantly tweak detection logic, enhancing the ability of Microsoft Defender Antivirus, also for Windows 7.
