A user logged into his PC last week and had 'some issues' with his profile. Now he is unable to run any of the desktop 365 apps. His outlook shows that his folder hasn't synced since that day. When he enters his credentials again, it does not accept them even though he can log on to the 365 web apps with the same credentials.
When the user is logged in now and I do a 'whoami' it is showing the wrong user name and SID. It shows:
xxxxxx - S-1-5-21-552448778-2258685349-3034997113-1729
If I look at the registry entry for profiles I see both that SID and the one that his login SHOULD be attached to which is:
yyyyyy - S-1-5-21-552448778-2258685349-3034997113-1762
I'm hoping there is a procedure to get the correct SID attached to his login again. The user folder still exists under C:\users and in the 'Profile List' in the registry, the correct folders are in each of their respective 'ProfileImagePath' entries.
To clarify / summarize: When the user logs in to Windows 10 with his normal credentials, it's not loading the correct SID/profile. It should be the SID ending in 1762. It is instead loading the 1729 profile. How can I get the 1762 SID associated with his login again?
Thanks in advance for any help. Much appreciated.
