In a .net 4.7 widows desktop application i had the same error: When i upgrded this Nuget: Microsoft.Identity.Client 4.32.1 -> 4.42.0
Then it started to work for me.

Upgrading the package Microsoft.Identity.Client to 4.42.0 worked for me

Upgrading to latest package will be the last option. But older version must be supported or working as there are some other application which was using older versions from long time. So instead of upgrading to latest, older version needs to be fixed.

I agree, but if that is the only option, then we better should go by it. We have 2 major desktop apps running in PROD and are broken by this change, now I have asked to upgrade and re-publish so that at least the app runs.
