Server 2008R2 machines not onboarding in M365 Defender portal

I am in the process of onboarding a customer's servers to Microsoft 365 Defender. They still have a fair amount of 2008R2 machines which need to be onboarded by connecting the Microsoft Monitoring Agent to an OMS workspace. This works fine for most machines, but 10 machines refuse to onboard. I've already checked the following:

  • Machines are running the latest MMA
  • Machines are patched and up to date (for 2008R2)
  • Machines can connect correctly to the OMS workspace
  • Machines connect directly (no proxy)
  • Machines successfully pass the connectivity test to all Azure hosts I'm currently out of ideas, especially since 20 other machines have been onboarded without issues.
