End user has a 300 GB hard drive; has multiple SharePoint locations synchronized and other locations shortcutted to his OneDrive; they amount of SharePoint content exceeds the capacity of the hard drive. Sync client/desktop app will not allow removing the shortcuts or allow access to the OneDrive settings to remove the sync'd content. Web app only had one short cut visible; remove that online, but still shows in File Explorer on the desktop.

  • Is there a way to remove the sync'd/shortcutted items online?
  • Will uninstalling and reinstalling Desktop app change anything?
  • Will unlinking the PC provide a solution?
  • One option may be having the user sign in on a PC with an expanded Hard Drive, then when everything is synced on the expanded hard drive, then we may be able to remove the connections to the various SharePoint locations.

    Hi @Reece, John

Is there a way to remove the sync'd/shortcutted items online?

As you said OneDrive online only has one shortcut visiable, other shortcuts seem not to be synced successfully. I suggest you do actions on local OneDrive folder directly.

Will uninstalling and reinstalling Desktop app change anything?

Does the Desktop app mean OneDrive client?

If so, you can try it, but I can not promise it will work for your issue. Thanks for your understanding.

Will unlinking the PC provide a solution?

I would like to suggest you unlink account first. Then please remove the shortcuts. This action would not affect the files or folders on OneDrive online.

For moving OneDrive on an external drive, please check out following references:
