Ongoing Windows 11 Update Problem

After significant effort, I have managed to remove all but one Windows 11 error message in Settings/Windows Update.  The final remaining update problem on the Settings/Windows Update screen is:  "Windows version 22H2, install error 0xc1900101.  The next message in the process was "attempting to recover installation."  That was followed with "undoing changes to your computer" which was on the screen for a fairly long time.  Then came the notorious Blue Screen of Death.  That screen said "your device has run into a problem and needs to restart.  We're just collecting we're just collecting some error information and then you can restart."  The BSOD then displayed "Stop Code CRITICAL PROCESS DIED." I realize that I can probably handle this by completely reinstalling Windows 11 (and lose all of the configured programs and needed data files).  I had hoped that the Windows 11 update in-place option would be preferrable.  However, I carefully went through that process twice and both times got the same errors above.  What is the least destructive way to clean up Windows 11?  I also tried command line programs such as the System File Checker as well as DISM with recommended switches.  Finally I tried the Windows Update troubleshooter several times without success. This has been a stubborn, vexing problem over a lengthy time.  If anyone has suggestions (or better still a solution), that would be very helpful.  Thanks.

ice ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you." This error message can be caused by a variety of issues, such as incompatible hardware, outdated drivers, or corrupted system files. To troubleshoot the error and fix the issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check for any hardware compatibility issues: Make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11, and that all your hardware components are compatible with the new operating system. You can check the compatibility of your hardware by visiting the manufacturer's website.
    2. Update your drivers: Make sure that all your drivers, including graphics, network, and storage drivers, are up to date. You can use the Device Manager or third-party software to check for and update your drivers.
    3. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: This tool can help identify and fix common Windows Update errors. To run the troubleshooter, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update.
    4. Reset Windows Update components: If the Windows Update service is not working correctly, you can try resetting its components. To do this, open an elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands: net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits net stop msiserver ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old net start wuauserv net start cryptSvc net start bits net start msiserver
    5. Perform a clean installation of Windows 11: If none of the above steps work, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 11. This will erase all your files and programs, so make sure to back up your important data before proceeding. If you are not comfortable performing these steps yourself, it may be best to seek the assistance of a qualified technician or contact Microsoft support for further assistance.
