Azure MariaDB version upgrade from 10.3 in 2023

Hi

I've asked this question a bit over 6 months ago, but can't find any up to date information and am curious what the current status is: Is there any intention to provide MariaDB in Azure with versions higher than 10.3? It is set to reach end-of-life in a month (25. May 2023).

Additionally, will we still be able to create new servers after this date? The MySQL documentation indicates that this will not be the case (but no specifics regarding MariaDB). It would be good to have clarity on what to expect in the next month as there doesn't seem to have been any indication or announcement. If the ability to create new MariaDB servers becomes unavailable, what is the official suggestion regarding alternatives?

Many thanks.

    Hi

    •,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum and thanks for using Azure services.

As I understand, you want to know about Azure MariaDB version upgrade from 10.3 in 2023.

As per the discussion with the internal team, we plan to support v10.3 on MariaDB till September 2025. We do not plan to release any new MariaDB versions. Customers would be able to create new v10.3 MariaDB servers until further notice.

We highly recommend customers to migrate their workloads to MySQL Flexible server as we are bringing all new features to the MySQL Flexible platform and MySQL is closely compatible with MariaDB.

Hope this information helps. Do let us know if further queries.
