Updates have been installing on this laptop for 17 hours now. Laptop is running, screen is dark and I can manipulate the mouse. I’m working past a deadline now and need to be able to actually use this device. Can anyone tell me how long this will take? Can anyone offer advice or helpful tips? Feeling desperate .

Hi, thanks for coming into the forums. I'm also a user like you and I'll be more than happy to help you to the best of my knowledge. 17 hours for a Windows update is too long.

    1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    2. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    3. On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices show the manufacturer’s logo when restarting) hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    4. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    5. When Windows starts again, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device.
    6. Press the power button again to turn on your device.
    7. This time, allow your device to fully start up.
    8. Select Advanced options.
    9. Now that you're in winRE, on the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair > Restart. For reference to the instructions provided. You may check this link. https://support.microsoft.com/windows/31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5 If that didn't work and gives you an error, you can try to reinstall Windows. Here are the steps on how to create Windows installation media.
    10. Insert a USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space on a working device. NOTE: Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
    11. click this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/
    12. Download the tool and click run.
    13. Select Accept.
    14. Select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
    15. Select which USB flash drive you want to use.
    16. Start the download. This process would take an hour or two depending on your internet speed. Once the download is completed:
    17. Insert the USB flash drive into the affected computer
    18. Restart your PC.
    19. On the Install Windows page, select your language, time, and keyboard preferences, and then select Next.
    20. Select Install Windows. If the reply is helpful, please Upvote and Accept it as an answer.
