SQL Server 2019 Can I Uninstall SQL server 2012 native client driver ?

Hello,

I have an Always On Cluster in SQL Server 2019 (15.0.4298.1) and my security officer tell me that the "SQL server 2012 native client driver" must be uninstall because it's not supported since July 2022.

Can I uninstall it without harming the cluster ?

Most recent drivers are installed :

  • Microsoft ODBC Driver 17
  • Microsoft OLE DB Driver

    I can't say for sure, but I find that I have a machine with SQL 2019 that has this driver, and I have not made much else on this machine, so I would assume that the driver came with SQL 2019. Which still is supported.

    Why it ships and if it is needed, and if something would break if you uninstall it, I don't know. But I would have a further discussion with the security officer, if I were you.
