I need to change number format defaults back to how I have used them for last 7 years. I got a new computer and they changed on this machine. I want control + 1 in excel for example to be exactly how it has been. Also want to make one customization to the default settings on my machine. Please tell me exactly how to do this. To be clear, do not want to change in one individual file but rather the overall number formatting which commands default shortcuts in every file.

    Hi @kendall pasteris

For some default settings in Excel, you need to go to Control Panel > Region > Additional Settings. Then please set some settings for Number and Date, which also apply to Excel.

    Capture37

For other deafult formats, please refer to the thread "How to change the default number format in Excel?", that you may modify the formatting in a blank workbook, then saving it as the default template.

The Xlstart folder for newer versions of Excel can be under following paths:

    C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\XLStart

Hope the information could be helpful.

This does not change the default commands such as CTR + SHIFT + 1 being number slightly indented from the right side with 1 decimal. Instead it is showing 2 decimals and line all the way to the right. That is one example. Similar issues arising with dollar format, % format, multiple format, etc. Need to be able to reset those to correct format. The current defaults are not good and need to be revised. Please advise, thank you!
