What is the upgrade path for server 2019 essentials after 2024?

I have a windows server 2019 essentials server. I wanted to know what Microsoft has planned for my server as far as upgrades - I have software that CANNOT be put on a virtual server and I only have 8 employees and I have to have AD......for the past 20 years my server with software has never exceeded $2000 so how does MS intend to support all of the loyal small businesses that bought into the Essentials version?

Thanks, but that does not actual address the question at all. There is no upgrade path listed to tell server 2019 essentials owners what to do to upgrade, how to do an inplace upgrade from 2019 essentials to the current version or what we need to do for continuity of service. We are just forgotten and, by Microsoft design, essentials owners do not always have IT departments.....so Microsoft OWES us a detailed article of how Server 2019 ESSENTIALS, not Server 2019 standard with a big IT department, owners are to upgrade to the "most recent version". Since Microsoft is just going to drop the Essentials version so they can make more money on the backs of very small businesses by tripling the cost of having Active Directory.

I have considered it, but our current server was so overbuilt that it can run 2022 easily....but I don't see MS listing a 2022 Essentials version anywhere - I can only find standard and datacenter listed. A new server from Dell would cost over $3000 - and this is all just so I can get updates, our current server runs fine, I have to be on a supported version.

Okay, I understand what you are saying. After January 9, 2024, Windows Server 2019 Essentials will be in Extended Support until January 9, 2029. Security Updates will still be provided during that time.

Is your software vendor saying that Extended Support (only security updates) is unacceptable?

Essentials is sold by OEMs pre-installed on hardware. It's not a standalone product like Standard or Datacenter versions. If you want an upgrade for your existing server then I think Windows Server 2022 Standard would be an option. Downside is you would need to pay for the license + Windows Server CALs + someone to handle the upgrade if necessary.
