How is excel able to fetch data from a file that is linked but doesn't exist on the same computer? Product Office365

I had moved an excel file with link to another excel file to a different computer. Yet when I pull data from the other file the data is fetched. How is it doing that. I checked the link in the formula and it points to file on my previous computer. How do I get access to the source file if I have to update any data.
