Hi so I was given a hand me down computer form a old relative that has past away and is still using Windows 7 and with the little support left I'm trying to upgrade it and having problems with all the out dated links or confusing computer talks of do X in Y and make sure that Z is running or it won't work at all.

like I found a download walk through and I think it works but keeps showing error code 0x80072f8f - 0x20000 and looked into that it has stumped me as I need to enable something like TLS 1.2 protocol but all the help with that is way to confusing and don't understand what they want me to do to have TLS 1.2 protocol enable.

I'm also not sure if I should even bother with this as this is just a outdated computer it was hand made so I believe it can handle windows 10 or even 11 its just was lasted used in 2018 so it missed the first and early free upgrade which I don't mind if I can just go buy a new windows operating system if that's the fastest and easiest way to just upgrade to the newer windows I'm not sure if they even sell software any more Microsoft is more into selling you a new hardware then just buying the software.

    Hello,

First of all, I would recommend evaluating the viability or upgrade. Depending on the machine capabilities Windows 10 may be too heavy do not perform properly. You can check the requirements here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-system-requirements-6d4e9a79-66bf-7950-467c-795cf0386715

I would discard Windows 11, because most processors from those years are not compatible, but you can check the compatibility list:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-amd-processors

About purchasing Windows 10, first you can install directly (recommended) by creating an Installation media from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20

Then you can purchase a license key in: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compare-windows-10-home-vs-pro

About Upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10 there are couple of articles that cover mostly everything:

Upgrade failures may take significant time to troubleshoot and troubleshooting may not identify nor fix the underlying problems.

    Consider the following approach:

1)Check the computer manufacturer / motherboard website to see if there are comments on Windows 10 or Windows 10 drivers.

2)Make free backup images and save the images to another disk drive or the cloud

(Acronis, Aoemi, EaseUS, Macrium, Paragon, etc.)

3)Test the disk drive using the Sea Tools Long Generic test:

    4)identify the product key

    5)Clean install Windows 10
