Status = VPN Platform did not trigger connection.

Hi,

I'm unable to connect to Azure VPN.

When I try connecting to it, I get "Status = VPN Platform did not trigger connection" and it just goes back to Disconnect status.

I tried killing and re-starting RasMan service (Remote Access Connection Manager) but it didn't help at all.

Please advise.

I understand that you are encountering the following error "Status = VPN Platform did not trigger connection" when trying to connect to Azure VPN client.

The error "Status = VPN Platform did not trigger connection" is generally a client-side issue or most likely a bug in the Windows VPN platform. But mostly this error appears when the Azure VPN Client does not have the "Background apps" App Permission enabled in App Settings for Windows.

Could you please make sure that the Azure VPN Client has permission to run in the background.

In Windows, select Start, then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features or Installed Apps.

Scroll to the Azure VPN client, select More options on the right edge of the window, then select Advanced options.

In the Background apps permissions section, under Let this app run in the background, select "Always".

Additionally, try the below steps:

Make sure that your Windows OS has all the required updates/hotfixes installed.

Delete/Uninstall all WAN miniport network adapters from Device manager, and then click on Action > Scan for hardware changes or perform a machine restart.

Check if any 3rd party software and/or firewall blocking these P2S connections from the client-side upstream towards Azure.

If the above steps don't help, we would need to collect logs for further troubleshooting.

I have the same issue with a stand alone Windows Server 2019, cannot use Azure VPN client to connect using AD authentication. Do you have any suggest?

Apologies for the delay in response, as I missed your comment.

Azure AD authentication with P2S VPN is not supported on Windows Server 2019.

Microsoft Entra authentication allows users to connect to Azure using their Microsoft Entra credentials. Native Microsoft Entra authentication is only supported for OpenVPN protocol and also requires the use of the Azure VPN Client. The supported client operation systems are Windows 10 or later and macOS.

So, it will not work.

In Windows 11, following steps below fixed my problem :

Go to Settings/Apps/Installed Apps/
Scroll down to find "Azure VPN Client", select "Advanced options"
Click "Repair" button under "Reset" part
