How do I create an .msi installer?

Ishida 20 Reputation points

I tried to read the following documentation:

But its so confusing that I failed to understand even a single thing.

Whats a .cmdtx file? What does it mean by UX files?

I mean why can't microsoft create simple and easy to understand documentations for learners like me.

I expected it to be some kind of app which would create an installer for us, like any other installer software.

I don't want to go for shortcuts and use third party apps to create .msi installers.

I wanna know how things work. Can someone make me understand how the installer is created?

If you're using some technical terms, please tell me its meaning as well.

Basically, im a totally newbie and I want you to explain me like im 5.

    Hello Ishda,

Thank you for your question and for reaching out with your question today.

If you're struggling to understand the link you provided, then I highly recommend The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer: It may also be worth downloading the Windows Installer 4.5

If you don't want to learn the Windows Installer fundamentals, then you'll need a wizard to hide all the intricate details and hold your hand through the process.

There are loads of options, some more costly than others: MSI Factory InstallShield Advanced Installer However, I would recommend that you read the aforementioned book and learn the fundamentals of what's going on in order to maximise your chances of creating an effective MSI.
