App Updates in UWP

Microsoft UWP experts,

What are the update options available for an UWP app available in microsoft store for public? If a user installs a version say v1.0 , if v2.0 is available in microsoft store , will he notified that a version is available? What are the ways available for the users for notification and installing the update when the new version of app is in store and public?

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Just talk from the Store side. Users will not be notified about the app updates. If the user has enabled the App updates option in the Microsoft Store, then the system will auto update your app when your update is available.

Ok , what i have seen during testing , installed v1.0 and then published v2.0 to the store , after some time when i open the microsoft store windows applet , i still see the button label with open and not with the label Update

Please try to turn off the feature, restart the computer and then turn on the feature and wait for sometime.

As I mentioned, please make sure the auto update feature is working correctly. Please try to turn off the feature, restart the computer and then turn on the feature and wait for some time. If the feature is working correctly, then the user will have their app updated automatically when there are updates available.

Ok . Are there any programmatic ways to identify new version of the app avalable in Microsoft store and show the notification?

You could just set a version number to your app which is lower than the store version when you are debugging your app

@Roy Li - MSFT I get this exception from the call - context.GetAppAndOptionalStorePackageUpdatesAsync()

The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)":null} .

This exception i have not seen in the free version of the app , but seen on the paid version. Both the versions are available in the windows store but published for some set of users. How does this work here?
