Unable to install Microsoft Apps on my Surface Duo Intune Company Portal

I own a Microsoft Surface Duo 1. I bought the device specifically to use as a work device/ phone. My company uses the Intune Company Portal to provide secure access to our corporate network. Unfortunately several of the apps from the portal Play Store will not install and I receive a message as follows when trying to do so "... an incompatible version of the app is already installed by another user ...". The following key apps cannot be installed:

  • MS Teams
  • MS Edge
  • MS Word
  • MS Excel
  • MS SharePoint

Funny enough MS Outlook can be installed, but this app and MS Teams are my key working applications, and without them both the device is useless for my work.

After extensive research on the limited information available, the root of the problem is that since the Surface Duo is a Microsoft device, Microsoft apps were baked into the Android image and cannot be uninstalled. Therefore when trying to install a similar app in the Intune Portal we receive the error and there is no workaround?

Is there a proposed fix now for this or will a fix be upcoming in a future update? Without this problem solved, sadly my very expensive Microsoft Surface is nothing more than a mediocre smartphone/ tablet.
