I have an issue. I cannot update my Windows 10 computer because the Windows Update service is disabled and I can't enable it.

Things I tried. even running with admin.

  1. Open services, Windows Update, right-click for properties and put Startup type to Automatic.
I just get "Windows could not start the windows update service on Local Computer

Error 1053: the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

  1. Open Regedit, Go here: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv
Double-click on Start and change the Value data from 3 to 2.
    and nothing happens.
  2. Open Task Manager, Services Tab, scroll down to wuauserv "Windows Update", right click and press start.
    Does nothing

a window appears saying this again: "Windows could not start the windows update service on Local Computer

Error 1053: the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.". And still says Stopped.

  1. Opened Settings, Troubleshoot, Additional troubleshooters, Windows Update, Run the troubleshooter and as usual that ever fixes anything. Just says "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"
  2. I tried the following command in power shell and it said system is healthy, no restart needed:"Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth"
  3. I also tried sfc /scannow but it says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I noticed that my "wuauserv" is not running. I followed these steps"https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/mem/configmgr/update-management/troubleshoot-issues-with-wsus-client-agents" but it says start_pending or the doesn't not exist as an installed package whenever I type the command sc start wuauserv.

Anything in Event Viewer? In Application and Services, you have "WindowsUpdateClient" - node. Easier would be to clean all logs, restart computer and start tracking errors and warnings.

It was a spyware. I was able to locate their location(Russia) that came through file in an email.

thankfully they didn't do any harm.

I made a windows recovery and wiped all files.
