Exercise - Configure network access

I am having problem with Task 4, everything works accordingly upto task 4, everything shows ok, port 80, 100ms etc etc but when I do the curl command it keeps giving me;

curl: (7) Failed to connect to 20.66.63.154 port 80 after 143 ms: Couldn't connect to server

In the notes it says wait a few moments but I have been waiting for 20 mins and it is still the same and the webpage wont load either.

Any advise? Thank you

Hi,

Please confirm when you completed the Exercise back in Unit 3, Task 1, step 2, that everything completed without any error messages? This is essential for you to get the expected results in the Configure network access (Unit 9) exercise you are on now.

Based on what you wrote you confirmed that the NSG is allowing port 80, but you get no response from your curl command, which means Nginx is not listening/responding.

What I recommend is to jump back to the Unit 3 - Exercise - Create an Azure Virtual Machine exercise using the "Unit x of 14" dropdown menu at the top, Activate a new Sandbox, re-do the exercise, then jump back to Unit 9 exercise and complete that again. The sandbox is only valid for 1 hour max, which is why I'm asking you to activate a fresh one so you will have time to complete both exercises.

Why am I running into an error on Task 4: Access your web server again?

The most common issue with this unit is either an expired sandbox from when you started the prerequisite to create a VM in unit 3 Exercise - Create an Azure Virtual Machine (you need to complete both unit 3 and 9 within an hour) or a configuration/setup issue in unit 3 when the VM was created.

In this case, you've successfully completed tasks 1-3 which would suggest that there is an issue with a configuration with your network settings in unit 9. This is what a successful configuration will look like:

Make sure that all of your network settings are correctly set in Task 3 when you create the network security rule and try this again.
