SharePoint online list choice column selection not being saved

Question

I added a column to a SharePoint list (new experience). It is a choice column with three options. You can only select one item. To update the column, I must use the grid view because the PowerApps entry form does not include the field. The staff submitting the request don't need to fill out the field, just the form administrators.

I go into the grid view, make a choice in the field, when I get out of grid view, the selection is gone.

vrm discovered that the answer was simply to refresh the PowerApp data connection.
