When using SSMS if you have a query tab open and try to run a select top 1000 on a table a new window will pop up.
However, if by accident you close the query window before ssms executes the top 1000 query SSMS will run the script on the already opened window.
This was a rather unpleasant surprise for me.
I wonder if you already know about this problem?
Is it going to be fixed?

You can try to update SSMS up to the version 18.12.1
Or even 19.0.2
Note that this is only possible if the server running SSMS is under heavy load and you have the time to close the new script window before SSMS starts to execute the top 1000 query.
I have installed 19.0.2 to test it, it also has the bug.

I say "possibly", because, as always with software development, there are priorities. But if Microsoft does not of the bug, they will certainly never fix it. At least not purposely.
