I have a File Server with Windows Server 2022 operating system installed.
I recently noticed an intriguing problem: when entering Effective Access of any folder (shared or not) on the server and having the Effective Access of any user (local or domain user) listed, I get no response.
The message 'Computing effective access...' remains open on the screen, the CPU and memory usage reaches 100% through a process called by the file explorer, however, the result of this search is never displayed.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
I looked for events in Windows Logs > Security, but didn't find any relevant information there.

I opened case with MS Support on May 18th (Request ID 2305180060003215) and they have yet to even respond. Cause is KB5026370, in my test environment I uninstalled that update and behavior of effective access GUI returns to normal. With KB5026370 installed you do not ever receive results and get CPU spike from excplorer.exe of 14% on host and 56% on VM in Hyper-V 2022, does not seem to effect Server 2019. Have to kill process to recover. Yet another example of the poor QA from Microsoft.
Exactly. I did the same. I uninstalled KB502370 in the test environment and the effective permissions query was working again immediately.
I hope that we will soon have a definitive solution to this problem.

Having the same issue across our domain, on brand new (and existing) Server 2022 Datacenter servers and even our Win 11 machines (on local and shared files). I don't always get the CPU spike, but I always get stuck on "Computing effective access..."

I have the same problem on Windows 11.
After installing KB5027303 on my Win11 machine the issue appears to be fixed locally. Still waiting for a fix for my Server 2022 VM's.

I can confirm that KB 5028171 (July cumulative update) on my Server 2022 has fixed this issue.

I also opened a support call, said wait for patch but also said wasnt listed as a bug. MS on twitter say otherwise.
Just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read on Twitter :)

enabled firewall rules to allow "Netlogon authz",
There are a number of articles above changing the ACL for that service. Still see the issue trying to compute effective permissions while on the Windows server hosting the share.
