I want to create a custom data type using Java Script and "FormattedNumberCellValue" but this relies on excel's limited "Custom Number Formatting" system. Can or when can a custom data type have a truely custom number format? Specifically, I would excel to work with feet and inches or meters and millimeters or other compound distance values. these numbers can be held as a double but must displayed in the correct format to be useful such as 12'-2" or 10M 10mm etc.
