On my mac, I cannot create new folders in Outlook becuase the button is greyed out. Several times, i tried a link that promised to fix the but the link was unavailable. It seems to be a common problem as I saw other posts about it - but I have not seen a simple solution

    Hi @shona schonning ,

    Welcome to our forum!

Have you tried to select the folder and then click Folder via File>New or just right click the folder and click New Folder?

If the above doesn't help, are you using a Gmail account? If so, as i know, it's an expected behavior in Outlook for Mac. Please refer to my reply in this thread:

[Cannot create folders in Outlook on Mac (desktop version)](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1193431/cannot-create-folders-in-outlook-on-mac-(desktop-v)

Hope the above help. If the above is not your case, please provide more information about your case.

I found the only way (on an IMAP account) is to temporarily revert to the legacy outlook interface (if you were working in the previous Outlook version), create the folders and then shut down Outlook, reopen and choose New Outlook from the Outlook menu. This takes you back into the new Outlook interface but with your folder structure created.

So, I resolved this by selecting the toggle to switch from legacy to the new layout for Outlook365 on my Mac Mini (Outlook365 v.16.81 (build 24011420). In the legacy mode, I could not create new/add folders, but in Windows, I would have no problem. It's a bit of a PITA to remotely connect to my Windows Desktop, to open Outlook, and to add a new folder. The legacy layout allowed me to create rules for the same account though. In the new layout, I can create folders (as I've already stated), but now I am unable to view existing rules or create new ones. https://prnt.sc/KbOYCXTWuAxr As can be seen here, it says I can't add any (blacked-out personal details).
