Firstly, please make sure you have installed the latest Office. Go to File >> Account >> Update Options >> Update now.
Also, using Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
If the issue persists, you can try resetting Word to default settings. Here are the steps to do so:
- Quit all Microsoft Office applications.
- In Finder, click on the "Go" menu and select "Go to Folder..."
- In the dialogue box, type "~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Word" and hit "Go".
- Rename the "com.microsoft.Word" folder to "com.microsoft.Word.backup".
- Restart Microsoft Word.
