Is it possible to restore one virtual machine backup to another azure tenant?

Hi everyone, I hope that you are doing well.

Currently, I'd like that you could help me with one question.

I have a VM backup running in a subscription called "suscription1" on the tenant "tenant1"; I'd like to know, if is it possible to restore the backup (VM or disk) to "suscription2" that is on the tenant called "tenant2"?

Because resources are subscription-related and not tenant-related you need to consider multiple steps when you want to migrate a resource from one tenant to another.

Without these well-planned migration steps of subscriptions, you have only the option to move recovery services vaults between subscriptions in the same tenant.

Hi, @Patchfox thanks a lot for your answer.

Nevertheless, let me explain a bit more about what's the main goal. The idea is to restore one backup from one subscription that is over one tenant to another subscription that is over another tenant. For example, exactly as you said, in this picture I can restore the backup only the subscriptions that are over one the same tenant.

I've heard that using Azure Lighthouse will be possible to select different subscriptions that are over other tenants, Is it right?

@Jose Luis Angulo Rico Cross-Tenant isn't currently a supported option for restore, just cross zone, region, and subscription. Support matrix for Azure VM backups - Azure Backup | Microsoft Learn
