Have you done a full backup of your Exchange server?

I am referring to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/vss/overview-of-pre-backup-tasks using API to perform VSS full backup, and found that the snapshot has been successfully created, but the log screenshot is not completed , I would like to ask, is it necessary to use VSS Writer to participate in the recovery of the full backup performed by VSS?

According to your post, do you mean the backup created by API failed and was not completed?

On Exchange side if the backup failed, the logs may not be truncated.

I would recommend re-creating a full backup following the link in my former post to see if it works for you.

is it necessary to use VSS Writer to participate in the recovery of the full backup performed by VSS?

Kindly note that since this topic is more related to windows server, as here we mainly focus on Exchange issues, we are not very familiar with it.

Yes, I use the VSS API to create a full backup. All the previous API calls are successful, and there are corresponding successful events. The last API call (BackupComplete) reports an error, and the prompt is: The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer ( Instance 333baced-1839-4d69-b260-b2bf63c97adf) failed with error 8007064A when processing the backup completion event.

Successful interface events are as follows:

EVENT ID:2110

The Microsoft Exchange VSS Writer instance 8f32e117-7f51-4139-b05a-1afb750a98af has successfully prepared for a full or a copy backup of database 'exchange-database'. The following database will be backed up: exchange-database.

EVENT ID：2023

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer (Instance 8f32e117-7f51-4139-b05a-1afb750a98af) successfully prepared for backup.

EVENT ID：2025

The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer (Instance 8f32e117-7f51-4139-b05a-1afb750a98af) successfully prepared for a snapshot.

EVENT ID：2027

The Microsoft Exchange VSS Writer instance 8f32e117-7f51-4139-b05a-1afb750a98af has successfully frozen the databases.

EVENT ID：2029

The Microsoft Exchange VSS Writer instance 8f32e117-7f51-4139-b05a-1afb750a98af has successfully thawed the databases.

EVENT ID：2035

Try to modify regedit HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\V14\Replay\Parameters

New DWORD , Name = EnableVSSWriter, value=0

Then Restart Exchange Replication Service.
