taskbar treats a program update as a new program

When I mark a program as "always visible" in the taskbar settings, it all works fine.

If I update the program (recompile etc.) and it is still the same name located in the same folder, it 'loses' the "always visible" attribute and I have to use taskbar settings to correct it.

I've noticed this with other programs like Google Drive - every time it's updated, I have to go back into settings to make it visible again.

It seems Taskbar is using far more than a program's name/location to identify it. This seems a poor design. As well, it leaves all these old duplicate names in the "always visible" list making it very difficult to modify the state of the correct entry as they all look the same.

Is there a way to make this 'more intuitive'?

There is a Feedback app in your system. You can use that app and share the problem there.
