I have a McAffee antivirus, all the updates installed, everything legal, no pirated software on the laptop. I barely use it, rarely download anything. Where does this issue come from?

Keeping two antivirus programs -McAffee antivirus and default Windows Defender is not a good idea. It may lead to conflicts. And it seems in your case it has happened as a result virtualization based security suddenly turn off.

Uninstall McAffee antivirus to fix the issue.
