I am trying to set up a notification for Timer Job deployed as farm solution. I was How to write a code in Visual Basic for SharePoint 2016 Timer Job to send out a notification to a group when the timer job fails in Central Admin? Not sure if that's possible.

You can create a custom timer job to send e-mail alerts. You can refer to following steps to custom your timer job
