Is it possible to ping out to the Internet from Azure lab services VM/Is a Public IP per VM possible?

So ping 8.8.8.8 from within the VM doesnt work (browser access to the Internet works). Note I want to ping out from the VM. It appears the issue is the load balancer? (firewall and NSG allow ICMP). Ideally I would just assign each VM in the lab its own public IP address. Is there a way to do this for lab services VMs? If not is there any way to enable ping access to the Internet?

To allow outbound ICMP traffic on your Azure VM, you will need to create an outbound security rule in the network security group (NSG) associated with your VM's virtual network interface.

Once you assign a IP address you should be able to ping external address.

2023-06-14T09:53:02.4733333+00:00 Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately those steps don't work for the https://labs.azure.com/ Azure lab services VMs? (we use those steps currently for VMs in normal Azure but don't see that capability for VMs created in a lab - Microsoft.LabServices/labs.)

2023-06-14T11:08:36.27+00:00 Okay got it now, however Lab virtual machines don't have a public IP address and only have a private IP address. So you will not be able to deploy external access as this is a LAB for students and for training purpose.

2023-06-14T11:20:41.1533333+00:00 The machines do have external access with TCP/UDP is just ICMP being the issue. (one part of the training course we have is to ping 8.8.8.8). If they cant have a public IP each then any other way to allow ICMP through the load balancer would be great.

2024-02-26T10:47:14.4733333+00:00 As far as I am aware there is still no solution. But I havent actively looked since last year. Perhaps you could look at using a UDP based ping.
