Why do I have different navigation types in my test page than my main page.

I am trying to make my navigation vertical in my site and cant figure out how to do it. User's image

I should not that when I go to settings> change the look> navigation I have that option. Purple accent is the test environment and green is the main page.

Hi Todd Porter ,

Team Site has left side navigation by default, which can currently be set to Vertical or Horizontal, and when set to Horizontal, you can choose the Menu style as Mega menu or Cascading. Meantime, Communication Site only has top navigation, there is no Orientation to choose by default.

From screenshots you provided, it can be inferred that the purple accent is a team site, and the green accent is a communication stie. So, the purple accent has Orientation, and the green accent does not have.

Firstly, when creating a new site, there are two options, Team Site or Communication Site.

And to identify a SharePoint site is Team site or Communication site, the most direct way is to look at their navigation bar:

Communication site: the navigation pane is next to the site name.

Team site:

At the top of a team site, you'll see the site logo, the name of the site, and whether the site is private (only approved members can view) or public (anyone in your organization can view).

And Left-hand navigation pane.

At currently it’s not supported to directly convert communication site to team site in SharePoint Online. So, the fastest way to get your content in a team site is - create a team site and migrate your communication site content to it.
