Hi,

I have a problem with the drivers in the RICOH C3000 printer.

I have a printer server on Windows Server 2019 Standard. The printer is added correctly together with "RICOH PCL6 V4 UniversalDriver V4.16".

In the GPO in the domain controller, I have set the printer to be added automatically to computers located in the appropriate department.

The printer is added to users but it is added with the "microsoft enhanced point and print driver".

Even though the driver is changed to "RICOH PCL6 V4 UniversalDriver V4.16" on the user's computer and the computer is restarted, the driver changes to "microsoft enhanced point and print driver" again.

This happens to all users who have this printer.

Is it possible to change the driver so that it stays the way we set it? Can I block it somehow?

Regards,

Lukasz

    Hello there,

You can try to alter your GPO and check the results.

To prevent any security issues with driver installation, it is best to enable ‘Package, Point, and Print’ settings. Launch the ‘Group Policy Management Console’ (GPMC) and create a new ‘Group Policy Object’ (GPO) in which to store your printer deployments and settings. In this guide, my GPO will be named Domain Printers. Edit this GPO and navigate to ‘Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/Printers‘. Enable ‘Point and Print Restrictions‘, enter your print server names, and set both drop down menus to ‘Do Not Show Warnings or Elevation Prompts‘.

Enable ‘Package Point and Print – Approved Servers‘ and enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your print servers. You will need one test printer installed on your print server.

Hope this resolves your Query !!

Hi, you can't set the driver on the client system for a connection to a shared printer. What is the HardwareID for the printer on the server? HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/print/printers/printername. This HardwareID will need to be the same as the driver installed on the client. I'm guessing you are preinstalling the driver on the client. The hardware Ids are in the printer INF file.

The other way to deliver a Type 4 driver to the client systems rather than the MS point and print compat driver is use a Type 4 driver published to Windows Update. The client will get the driver from WU for shared printers using Type 4 drivers. That's the whole design.
